Earlier this year, the district received authorization from the state to raise the tax millage rate above the 1.9 mills limit. The application to raise the limit cited mounting pension and special education costs. The Act 1 limit is part of Pennsylvania’s property tax law.
In a presentation to the board and public Thursday, business administrator Dan Rodgers outlined ways the district could continue to hack away at the gap. He cited working to review late bus runs, reviewing staffing of support positions and reducing discretionary student competitions as ways to save money.
Rodgers said some money is budget being set aside in advance of possible construction at Pennwood Middle School.

The contribution from the state is still unknown and will not be announced until officials in Harrisburg approve a budget, which must be done by June 30.
The board, who needs to approve their budget by June 30, plans to vote on the issue at their June 11 meeting.
