Firefighters from several companies made a quick stop at a house fire in Falls Township Monday morning.

A person driving down Robin Hood Drive spotted smoke coming from a home in the 10 block of the street and called 9-1-1 around 9 a.m. Fire crews quickly responded and found a working fire on the first floor, Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said.

The fire marshal commended firefighters for quickly putting a stop to the blaze, which was determined to be started by a cigarette put in a trash can.

The residents had left to run an errand and took their dog shortly before the fire broke out.

Due to the heat and smoke damage to the first floor, the residents will not be able to return home Monday, Dippolito said.
