Police Working To Catch Suspects In High School Bomb Threats

Bristol Township police say they have “identified suspects” in two morning threats that led to the early dismissal of students at Harry S. Truman High School.

Police were called to the school around 9:25 a.m. Friday after two messages – identified by investigators as bomb threats – were found in bathrooms inside the high school. Acting Chief of Police Ralph Johnson said one note was found in the men’s bathroom and the other was found in the women’s bathroom.

The student body was evacuated to the football field and police were called once the threats were found.

Johnson said school officials reviewed surveillance video from the building and are working with investigators to identify the individuals they believe are suspects.

Bristol Township School District officials decided to dismiss all students after they spent more than an hour on the football field. District staff worked with transportation officials to gather buses to clear the students from the school premises around 11:45 a.m.

Police at the scene said juniors attending prom Friday night were allowed to leave at 11 a.m., which is when they were originally scheduled to leave.

Two bomb-sniffing dogs from Middletown and others from Bensalem, Bristol Township and Falls responded to the school and did a sweep, Lt. Terry Hughes said. Johnson said the search did not turn up any explosives.

One of the threats, according to an image obtained by LevittownNow.com and verified by police, read: “Blowup! 5/1 @ 9:30.”

Concerned parents gathered along Green Lane and Mill Creek Road while police investigated the threats.

Several parents outside the school had praise for the way the district quickly reacted to the incident and notified them.

Students and staff who wanted to retrieve their personal items were allowed back in the school following the bomb sweep.
