A Bristol man approached a local market last weekย in pursuit of powdered milk, but police say he left the store after taking over $150.

Bristol Township police say they were called to the Manegeh African Food Market on Ford Road shortly after 8:30 a.m. last Tuesday for the report of a robbery. According to the employee working, 23-year-old Shawn Garnett was waiting outside the market when she arrived. He reportedly told her he was there to buy milk.

After the employee letย him inside, Garnett grabbed a can of powdered milk from a nearby shelf and brought it to the checkout counter. It was then, according to a probable cause affidavit, that Garnett got aggressive with the employee and told her, “I want the money.” The employee then left the store to call her store manager, during which time Garnett was seen removing all the money from the register via surveillance cameras.

The surveillance video was viewed by both police and Garnett’s parole/probation officer, who confirmed the man in the robbery incident was indeed Garnett. During a police interview later that day, Garnett also confirmed he was in the video. He told police he took money sitting next to the register and then took more from inside the register once the employee walked outside. Garnett estimated he took $150 to $200 from the store that morning.

Garnettย was chargedย with one felony count of theft and one felony count of receiving stolen property in the incident. He was arraigned and sent to prison on 10 percent of $25,000 bail. He awaits a preliminary hearing with District Judge Joanne Kline forย May 6.
