The event, which will be held rain or shine, features free family-friendly activities that will be both educational and entertaining. A classic car show, including cars once owned by Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison, will be on display, while an Elvis impersonator entertains in the Kevin and Sima Zlock Performing Arts Center (formerly the Gateway Auditorium). The classic car show and Elvis performances are courtesy of the Gene and Marlene Epstein Humanitarian Fund.
For the younger set, there will be a balloon artist, face painting with a princess, bounce house activities, a Djembe drumming circle from West Africa, Zumba for kids, and a Lego Lounge. Fire trucks, police cars, and other emergency equipment will be on display, while an emergency medevac helicopter will land and be open for tours.
The college’s academic departments will also be open for tours, and will present activities and demonstrations across campus. For example, the Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM) Department will demonstrate DNA from strawberries, “get to know your bones,” and flying quadrotors. The Historic Preservation program will present “History Underfoot,” a chance to sample archeology and artifact analysis. The Arts Department will demonstrate glassblowing, woodworking, and other fine arts skills, while Artmobile, the college’s traveling outreach museum, will be open for visitors with its “A Fine Line” interactive exhibition about drawing.

Student musicians and a DJ will also entertain, and Boomer, the mascot of the Trenton Thunder baseball team, will visit as well. Tours of Tyler Hall, the 60-room French-Norman mansion on the National Register of Historic Places that’s the cornerstone of the Newtown campus, and its formal gardens will also be available.
Free refreshments and giveaways will be available while supplies last. For a complete list of activities, visit www.bucks.edu/communityday.
