Falls Township has a new tradition. For the first time in 64 years, the township swore in a new police officer during it’s public Board of Supervisors meeting.
The officers, which were normally sworn in at District Judge Jan Vislosky’s office, will still be sworn in by the judge, but this time at the Falls Municipal Building.

The tradition, according to a Falls Facebook post, allows residents to see the men and women that become members of the police force, both at public meetings and on their televisions.
On April 7, Francisco Olmeda III, a resident of Langhorne, became the first new officer sworn in under the tradition. Olmeda who was previously a member of a police department in Prince County, Virginia has previously worked for the President of the United States. According to Chief Wilcox, the force is “very lucky to have him”.
The department previously sworn in Nicole Diviny and Ron McPherson, whose father formerly worked for Falls, before the meeting. Diviny joins the force from the Philadelphia Police Departmen while McPherson is a graduate of the Montgomery County Police Academy.

The department, which remains staffed at 52 officers, has a lot of new faces according to Chairman Bob Harvie. “We’ve had a lot of officers retire,” he said. “It’s almost a new department.”
