Kaufman, an employee of Waste Management, was in the communityย doing his regular route when he heard children crying and a mother screaming that her house was on fire.

Without second thought, Kaufmanย rushed into the Crabtree home and put out a fire that had started on a mattress.

Due to Kaufman’s efforts, he prevented the fire from spreading and further damaging the home. As a result, heย suffered smoke inhalation and had to be transported to the hospital.

โ€œThe damage was minimal thanks to that trash truck operator,โ€ Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito told LevittownNow.com the day of the fire.

Kaufmanย and his family attended the council meeting to accept the award.
