A collaborative effort is returning summer camp to Bristol Borough.
Representatives from the Bristol Borough Learning Centers Advisory and Oversight Committee were present at the March 2 Bristol Borough Council meeting to outline the summer program. During the presentation, it was made clear that students lose academic progress over the summer. Staying in a classroom setting would help to curb the loss of progress over summer months.

According to the initial presentation at the Bristol Borough Council meeting, the purpose of the program is “to improve academic standing and provide challenging and fun activities for Bristol Borough residents in grades K through eight.” The program would last for six weeks, from July 2 to August 13, and would be held at Snyder-Girotti Elementary School.
Throughout the course of the program, students will have academic and sport sessions. All meals and snacks will be provided by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Academic focus will include math, language arts and PSSA prep. The six sports students will practice include volleyball, soccer, two terms of basketball, diamond sports, and flag football.

In order to register students are required to have proof of residency, health insurance, and a birth circumstances.
The total budget for the camp is $24,822, which includes payroll taxes.

On March 9, the Bristol Borough Council voted unanimously to pay $20,000 to the Advisory and Oversight Committee.
The camp is currently proposed to be held Monday through Thursday, lasting from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The Summer Camp served 418 youth of Bristol Borough in 2014.
