Volunteer firefighters braved below-zero temperatures Friday morning when battling a blaze in Hulmeville Borough.
Crews were called to 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue around 4 a.m. Friday for a reported fire. William Penn Fire Company Deputy Chief Andy Boyle said he arrived and found a van on fire with flames extending to a house.

Firefighters from several towns responded and were able to bring the flames under control in about 10 minutes, Boyle told LevittownNow.com. The two residents in the home were able to escape uninjured.
The vehicle appeared destroyed and the home suffered damage to the rear.
With the cold weather, the first fire hydrant crews went to was frozen and a second nearby one had to be used. The deputy chief said crews were prepared and quickly were able to gain use of the second hydrant.

To keep warm, firefighters kept moving, Boyle said. Once the fire was out, equipment was quickly returned to its proper location on fire apparatus and the volunteers returned to the vehicles to warm up.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
