Falls Township is following Morrisville and Bristol Township and gearing up to replace all of its 2,168 streetlights with new Road Focus LED Streetlights from Philips.

The purchase of the streetlights, which was authorized at the Falls’ Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday evening, will cost the township $417,075.

The cobra head style lights will be assembled by a company in Ohio, despite the board being told several months ago that the streetlights would be an entirely Pennsylvania made product.

“I’m not happy with the way things went down with this company,” said Vice Chairman Jeffry Dence. Dence, who says he supports the project, was disappointed the model the township originally sought was being discontinued.

Supervisors Jeff Boraski spoke to the audience Tuesday night and said despite them saving a little money, they could save more if they chose to have the streetlight assembled overseas, which they will not do.

Armor Electric, which is based in Falls, is expected to install the lights when they arrive.

The lights which are far more energy efficient than their counterparts, will help save the township over $1 million dollars, according to board member Jeffrey Rocco.

“In the end its something we need to do, the later we wait to do it, the less savings we will see,” said Rocco.

What the township will pay is just a hair lower than the bid originally sent out by the township in August.
