The budget includes a tax increase of 6.71 mills, which will raise taxes by about $190 for the average assessed household, council members said.

The budget was passed after much debate between council members and even some members of the public.
“This borough can’t afford a lot of the things in this budget,” council member Gianpiero Lo Piccolo, who is on the finance committee, said. He added that the budget really only covers operating expenses and no major capital improvement projects like road paving are included.
Next year, the borough plans to bring in a budget consultant to help bring the budget more inline with borough revenues.

At the December 5 meeting, Police Chief Joseph Sciscio raised concerns about police staff as laid out in the budget. After Monday’s meeting, he said he would have to review the budget to see if those concerns were alleviated.
The police and sewer departments take up the largest chunks of the budget.
