The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup that struck the boy on Lakeland Avenue near Foster Avenue Monday afternoon is not to blame for the crash, Burns said.
While the driver did admit he had one drink before the crash, the man did not display overt signs of intoxication, Burns said. The sergeant noted blood was taken from the man and police are awaiting the results.
An initial investigation has determined the driver could not have avoided the boy. Burns said the boy ran into the street to catch up with friends after he stopped in a market.
