A fire at a rowhome on Cleveland Street in Bristol Borough caused minor damage Friday morning.

The small blaze was started when roofers using a torch accidentally lit a piece of the roof on fire and left, Bristol Fire Chief Herb Slack said. He added the roofers did not know a portion of the house was burning.

A neighbor called the homeowner who alerted 9-1-1 of the fire, Slack said.

Firefighters arrived to the scene quickly and were able to put the fire out before it caused any serious damage. The chief said fire crews did have to tear into a wall to make sure the fire did not spread.

Firefighters from America Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, Bristol Consolidated Fire Company, Bristol Fire Company No. 1, Fairless Hills Fire Company, Edgely Fire Company, Goodwill Hose Company and Third District Fire Company all responded.
