Despite freezing temperatures and a persistent threat of flurries, thousands lined Pond Street ย in Bristol Borough for the annual Christmas parade.
The joyous occasion included a surprise wedding proposal by a Bristol firefighter in front of Borough Hall. The proposal further enhanced the spirit and joy of the procession which picked up where Friday night’s exciting Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony left off.

The parade procession featured first responders, dance troupes, local businesses and more with Bristol District Court Judge Frank W. Pereanteau Sr. as master of ceremonies.
“It’s fantastic, as always,” said Renee Miller, a long term resident of the borough who comes to for the parade yearly.
Miller, along with a group of neighbors, set up a table at the end of Jackson Street on the parade route. They offered an offering an array of hot foods to passerbys as well as those participating in the parade. Miller said the group has been running the table for as long as the parade has been taking place.

“I think it is the only time people show up and spend the day together,” noted Miller.
Many patrons at the parade were people visiting the borough specifically for the parade, like the previous evening for the tree lighting at the base of Mill and Radcliffe streets.

Another parade goer, Tom, who used to live in Bristol Borough but c0mes back every year for the parade, said: “Its a great event.”
“I think it is a really nice parade,” said Nicholas Ramsey of Levittown.
“It was a little cold, but it was great. We have been coming here for 20 years,” said Michael Metz, who moved out of the borough about 10 years ago.

“We enjoy the parade. They do a nice job, and we come down [to see the parade] every year,” said Kevin Rushbrok.
The parade and tree lighting were a successful kick off to the holiday season in Bristol, many said Sunday morning as friends, family and community parted ways with the work week quickly approaching.
