On a blustery winter afternoon years from now while Bristolians and guests line the streets waiting for the annual Christmas Parade to start, they’ll say, “remember when that firefighter popped the question during the parade?”
They’ll be talking about November 29, 2014, when a volunteer first responder – Brian Hewlett, 31, of Bristol – jumped out the rescue truck he was driving in the Christmas Day parade with a bouquet of flowers in hand to ask probably the most important question a man can ask the love of his love.

“Will you marry me? ”
The scene, better than anything Hollywood can come up, played out in real time as Hewlett – one knee to ground, ring in hand – asked Priscilla Weimar,19, of Bristol, to take his hand for a lifetime of shared love.

Weimar, shocked to see the army of first responders following behind her firefighter, had a facial expression that went from surprise to tears of utter joy. She said “yes.” It appeared that through waves of surging emotion she could barely get the most important word beyond her lips.

It’s a scene that only images can express and words can not fully capture the significance of a single moment in time that deserves millions.
Hewlett, who volunteers with Third District and the American Hose Hook and Ladder Fire Companies, also shared that the couple is a expecting a child in June.

The newly engaged couple live in Bristol and have yet to set a wedding date but are planning to be married after their child is born.
For many men, watching and still single,Hewlett’s public proposal begs the question.
