Giving Tuesday is a day that aspires to be known on similar levels as shopping holidays Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Giving Tuesdayโs focus, however, is helping people.

The effort behind Giving Tuesday began three years ago and is now gaining momentum and identity, according to those involved with the effort.
โThis year, it has really taken off quite a bit,โ said Michael Hicks, communications manager for A Womenโs Place, an organization heavily involved with the local chapter of Giving Tuesday.
The goal, according to those involved, is for the day to become as well known and as recognizable as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

โI think this is the year it will reach a national consciousness in America,โ explained Hicks.
โ[Giving Tuesday] is primarily a social media driven event,โ said Hicks.

People behind the event want those contributing to use social media to let people know they are getting involved and the platforms are being utilized, and hopefully increase the donation base.
Parties interested in contributing to the effort must fall within two pieces of criteria, being that they must be a registered non-profit, and the organizations must accept contributions online, explained Hicks.
Individuals interested in helping have the ability to volunteer to specific organizations or contribute to participating organizations online.

Nov. 15 is the last day for organizations to sign up with Giving Tuesday, and as of Wednesday, Nov. 5, there were 99 organizations registered with Giving Tuesday Bucks, according to Hicks.
According to Hicks, the goal for fundraising for this year’s event from A Woman’s Place is $7,500, which is 50 percent more than last year’s goal.

Giving Tuesday Bucksโ official website describes participants as, โ part of a national celebration of generosity, a day to give a gift that makes an impact. This is an opportunity to give an on-line donation to support the work of the causes you care about. Itโs an easy way to be a part of something big, and include what you care about as a part of your holiday giving.โ
โWe’re excited to be a part of such a large national movement to increase charitable giving in our own backyards,โ says Heritage Conservancy Membership Coordinator Tammy Schane, whose organization is contributing for Giving Tuesday Bucks in 2014.
