The Croydon Fire Company’s rapid response is being hailed as the reason a woman was rescued so quickly during a Sunday night house fire.

Bristol Township Fireย Marshal Kevin Dippolito said the arriving fire crews found smoke and flames spewing from the dwelling in the 600 block of Princess Avenue. The first responders made a push on the fire, with search teams close behind. The firefighters located the woman in the font portion of the home and quickly removed her.

The firefighters turned the injured woman her over to the Bucks County Rescue Squad, who sped up State Road to get the victim to Aria Health’s Torresdale campus for emergency care. The woman was later transferred to Temple University Hospital.
According to Dippolito, the woman was sleeping when the fire broke out in the kitchen.

Dippolito said the fire was accidental and happened when a burner was left on in the dwelling.

“There were no working smoke detectors in the home,”ย the fire marshal told LevittownNow.com. He added the outcome could have been different for all involved if there was a working smoke detector in the house.
“The winter months and holidays bring an increased risk of fires,” heย said “This isย often due to the improper useย or maintenance of alternative heating appliances such as space heaters and fire places.”

Dippilito said that overloaded power strips, and use of candle also can lead to fires.

Just after the height of the holiday season last year, a family ofย 10 was displaced due to aย heater fire destroying the home.
“Residents are reminded to check their smoke detectors. Smoke detectors in every bed room on every level of a home will provide early detection and warning for residents to evacuate their homes,” Dippolito said.
