Bristol Borough Hires New Part-Time Police Officer

The Bristol Borough Council approved the hiring of a new part-time officer Ryan Bunda on Monday night.

A new officer has been on Mayor Pat Sabatini and Police Chief Arnold Porter agenda for some time, with an acknowledgement for the need coming from council some months ago.

Mayor Pat Sabatini spoke out before the vote advocating for the new officer; “We need some people down here, and we have a great opportunity to get a true Bristolian.”

“He is a true asset,” Sabatini added.

Sergeant Joe Moors, president of the police union, shared similar sentiments in commenting on the hire, saying “Yes, [this is] just in time for the busy holiday season. He’s well trained in Tullytown Borough and I expect him to have a quick transition here to Bristol Borough. Knowing the Borough and the training he brings with him makes him an asset to our department.”

“We’re going to utilize him as much as we can,” said Chief of Police Arnold Porter.

Although his usage will be limited due to his part-time status, Chief Porter believes the addition of an extra man will greatly improve the coverage of the Borough.

“Sometimes, one of the most difficult things is learning the streets,” said Chief Porter. This would not be an issue for Bunda, as Bunda often assisted Bristol during his time with the Tullytown Police Department, as well as has lived in Bristol his whole life.

“The chief did all of the appropriate testing in the proper and legal manner to get Mr. Bunda hired,” said Sabatini. “I hope he is out there tomorrow.”

Bunda, the new officer, is leaving Tullytown after one and a half years of experience.

“Part of me is sad to be leaving Tullytown; a great chief, a great department,” said Bunda. “It’s bittersweet, because I get to serve the town I grew up in. I’m excited to serve the people of Bristol.”

The motion, passing by unanimous vote of everyone present, was supported by Councilwoman Betty Rodriguez, of the West Ward. Recently, Rodriguez and Council Vice President Robyn Trunell walked with Sergeant Joe Moors through the West Ward to look at “trouble spots.”

“I took the opportunity to walk with Vice President Trunell and Joe Moors to look at some of the complaint spots. It’s my ward, I’ve lived there my whole life.”
