The investigation involves several students at the high school who “allegedly possessed inappropriate photo texts of a sexual nature,” district officials said. Police said the photos are reported to be nude images of students.

A statement from the district says the incident was reported by students who saw the images on the phones of classmates.

Middetown Police Chief Joseph Bartorilla confirmed Friday evening that his department is involved in the investigation.

“We’re at the very beginning stages of this. My guys just were at the high school this afternoon,” he said.

The news comes less than a week after police took an incident report over “inappropriate comments” about students are being posted on the anonymous Yik Yak app. The district also launched an investigation and sent an email to parents at the high school. Bartorilla said he does not believe the two incidents are connected.
