Drinking Now Allowed in Falls Twp. Park, Regulations to be Strict

beerDuring a dismally attended Falls Township Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday, the board approved Ordinance 2014-10, which will allow for the distribution, saleย  and consumption of alcohol in a township park or on township owned property.

Falls has added extremely strict regulations to this ordinance, reserving it for the use of special events only and requiring special event holders to apply for a “Special Event Permit” through the township. The permit will need to be applied for at least 45 days prior to the proposed event and a copy will be sent along to the Township Manager, Chief of Police, the Director of Public Works, the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Chief Code Enforcement Officer and Zoning Officer, and the Township Fire Marshall, all of whom will provide notes on the matter.

The special event holder will also be required to submit a fully executed indemnity agreement, a certificate of insurance, as well as any requirements deemed appropriate at the state level, officials said.

Chairman Robert Harvie remarked the process as “rigorous,” while Solicitor Lauren Gallagher said the process allows the approval or denial of applications to be at the board’s discretion, allowing them to “protect the safety, health and welfare of township residents”.
