Burglary at Elementary School Leads to Sour Note for Kids


A thief or thieves are playing the wrong tune when it comes to a local elementary school.

According to a letters sent to parents of children attending Oliver Heckman Elementary Schoolย  on the Middletown and Langhorne border and police, the school’s music room was broken into Tuesday morning between midnight and 7 a.m.

Last night, September 15th, a highly unusual event occurred at our school – someone broke into our instrumental-music modular-classroom. Eight instruments were stolen,” says the letter penned by principal Brian Kern.

Kern reports in his letter that Middletown Township police were contacted to report the break in and theft that’s starting the school year on the wrong key for kids.

According to the letter, six violins, a trumpet and a clarinet were stolen from theย instrumental-music modular classroom. The replacement cost is $3,700, according to Kerns’ letter.

Police said entry was to the Cherry Street school was made after a window was broken. Lt. Ken Mellus said they have no suspects in the crime and there are no similarities between other burglary cases.

“I’ve contacted you (the parents) to make you aware, and hope that the larger community can help provide information to the police. If you have any information that you believe may help with the return of the stolen property, and/or the apprehension of the thieves, please contact Middletown Police, ” the letter said.
