Man Accused of Attacking Woman in Hulmeville


Police in Hulmeville Borough found a injured woman when responding to a domestic dispute in progress on Tuesday.

According to court documents, upon arriving at the scene, Officer Joseph Zuchero was met by the victim who was sitting in front of the residence in an “extremely emotional” state.

The woman claimed that her boyfriend, Richard Rearick, 53, of Hulmeville, choked her, according to court documents.

The woman claims that during an argument that was growing heated, Rearick approached her and proceeded to “get in her face,” according to the probable cause affidavit.

As the argument grew, Rearick “lunged at her and proceeded to place his hands on her throat, and force her into the rear cushion of the couch,” according to the victim as given in court documents.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim began to lose consciousness and lost her ability to breath.

According to court documents, the victim had red marks on her neck, however, she did not lose consciousness.

Rearick denied touching the woman during their argument, police said.

Rearick is facing charges of terroristic threats with the intent to terrorize others, simple assault, and harassment. At arraignment, his bail was set at 10 percent of $50,000.

Just last month, Rearick was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to take anger management classes in connection with a simple assault case out of Hulmeville. He also pleaded guilty to simple assault and related charges in 2007, according to court records.

Rearick’s preliminary hearing has been set for August 20 at 2 p.m.
