The two people police were looking for spoke with a detective Wednesday night.

According to Hughes, the young woman was driving with 54-year-old Bristol Township resident Thomas Collins when he suffered a medical condition. The woman then drove through the Venice Ashby section of town and came upon the young man, who attempted to revive the 54-year-old with no luck.

The two then drove Collins in his black Honda to the hospital and let staff take him just before 9 p.m. Hughes said the man left with Collins’ car and the young woman stayed around at the hospital for a period of time. Police said they could not comment on how long or where in the hospital the woman stayed. Investigators initially thought she left right after Collins was taken away by medical staff.

Hughes said the man who tried to help Collins was just a “good Samaritan.”

Police did not release where Collins’ car was taken after the man was taken to the hospital. Authorities did confirm Wednesday the vehicle was found in the township.

Acting Chief of Police Lt. John Godzieba said Wednesday that it appeared Collins was dead when he was dropped off at the hospital. Staff in the emergency room performed CPR on the man, but it was not effective.

An autopsy was performed Wednesday morning and confirmed initial indications that there were no visible signs of trauma, Hughes explained. He added toxicology tests have been sent away and are expected back in the coming weeks.

Collins’ family has been in contact with police.
