Cops: Man Who Fled from Officer Said He Was Late for Martial Arts Class

Middletown police recently gave chase to Alexander Hossain on East Lincoln Highway and through multiple parking lots.

According to court documents, Officer Andrew Herman noticed the suspect in a blue Honda Accord traveling at an unusually high speed in the turn only lane on East Lincoln Highway. Although he was traveling in a turn only lane, Hossain appeared to make no preparations for a turn, police said.

According to the probable cause affidavit, another car legally entered the middle lane from Reedman Toll Auto World. In order to avoid a collision, the suspect allegedly veered into oncoming traffic.

This point is when a traffic stop was attempted by the officer, according to court documents.

Although the lights and siren were on, the suspect ignored the signals for a traffic stop, and made a left turn into the Redner’s parking lot, rolling through a stop sign without stopping, according to official documents.

The suspect continued through the parking lot until he approached the intersection at the Langhorne Square parking lot and Highland Park Way, according to the probable cause affidavit. The suspect again failed to stop at the stop sign posted at this intersection and continued into the Restaurant Depot parking lot.

The fleeing suspect moved towards the back of the parking lot, at which point the suspect entered the grassy part of the parking lot, according to court documents. The suspect quickly left the grass and proceeded north through the parking lot, police said.

The suspect attempted to enter the parking lot of Rosemarie’s Grill, but was stopped due to a high curb and grass, according to official documents.

The suspect identified himself as Omar Hossain, and explained that he did not know why he fled, and that he was late for his martial arts class, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Hossain was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop signal, and failing stop sign duties.

Hossain is still awaiting a preliminary hearing at the time of publication.
