State Police: ‘Careless Driving’ to Blame for Turnpike Toll Plaza Crash

The crash that caused a traffic nightmare on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bristol Township early Monday evening was caused by “careless driving,” according to state police based in King of Prussia.

According to a press release, a 35-year-old Mount Laural, N.J. man lost control of his 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV and went into the opposite lanes of traffic before hitting a tractor-trailer and ending up between a toll booth and a concrete pillar. An emergency official told LevittownNow.com Monday night that the man suffered only scratches.

Edgely Fire Company Deputy Chief Joe Cavanaugh said the car landed between the booth and the concrete safety barrier, just missing the booth that held a worker.

Firefighters from Edgely, Levittown No. 2 and Newport fire companies responded to the scene and removed the roof of the SUV to remove the man.

State police report they plan to charge the driver.
