UPDATE: Route 1 to be Closed for Hours Following Dump Truck Crash

Traffic in the northbound lanes of Route 1 was reopened by 4:45 p.m. and was slowly getting by on the shoulder. Northbound traffic appeared to still be stopped.

Middletown police said travelers on Route 1 could face delays for hours following the crash.

PennDOT crews are on scene and will likely have to replace the broken media barrier.

Traffic on Route 1 was blocked starting around 3:10 p.m. due to a serious crash in Middletown.

Reports indicate a dump truck crashed between Oxford Valley Road and I-95. The truck appeared in camera shots to be in both the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway. Images provided by Jesse Logue show multiple vehicles with damage.

Firefighters, police and medics rushed to the scene and went to work after possible entrapment was reported.

LevittownNow.com reader Kyle Whetstine said police were detouring northbound Route 1 traffic off at Maple Avenue. PennDOT cameras show southbound traffic being pushed off at the Oxford Valley Road exit.

“My office is right behind the trees there. The boom was so loud and made the whole building shake!” Crystal Soltys wrote on Facebook.
