The Neshaminy School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to reject a fact-finder’s report issued last week.

The vote to reject the report compiled by a lawyer appointed by the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board means the school district and the Neshaminy Educational Support Professionals Association (NESPA) will resume contract talks. If both sides would have agreed to the report, it would have become the union’s new contract.

NESPA members in attendance at Tuesday’s meeting clapped when the fact-finder’s report was rejected.
School Board President Scott Congdon said the report was rejected because the district did not agree with some of the findings. However, Congdon did say parts of the report were “very encouraging.”
NESPA members, of whom there are about 500, rejected the findings of the report recently, union members told LevittownNow.com.

According to district officials, both sides had 10 days to respond to the report and were asked not to release it. Congdon said the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board will eventually release the report via the internet.
After months of talks, the board and NESPA have not reached an agreement. The union contract expired on June 30.

NESPA members are worried their jobs could be outsourced by the district as if looks to reign in costs over the next several years. More than 100 NESPA members came to a school board meeting in June and petitioned for their jobs.
NESPA President Mindy Andersen said at a board meeting in June that 80 percent of the district’s support staff live in the district and the average salary is $28,000.
