A veteran Bristol Township police lieutenant said three people trapped inside a Honda minivan that was crushed by a trash truck were “very lucky” to only have non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened at the Veterans Highway (Route 413) and I-95 intersection in Bristol Township shortly before 3 p.m. The investigation into the cause was continuing as of 5:30 p.m.

The three people in the minivan were rescued by firefighters from several companies, police said. All of the people in the minivan were taken to an area hospital for treatment and the trash truck driver suffered no injuries.
It took about 20 minutes for firefighters to remove the last of the victims from the minivan that ended up through a guardrail and with the Republic-branded truck on top, police said.
Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said he arrived on scene and spotted a large truck from nearby Rob’s Towing. The truck pulled over and was used to stabilize the large trash truck following the nasty-looking wreck.

Firefighters from the Edgely, Newportville and Levittown No. 2 fire companies responded to the scene along with the Bucks County Rescue Squad. Bristol Township Fire Police and Pennsylvania State Police assited Bristol Township officers at the scene.
Police said they plan to release more information late Tuesday evening.
