A probe into what caused a smoky fire in the rear room of the house in the 800 block of Avenue F will continue, Jim Bamfield, a Middletown fire marshal, said. He added initial reports indicate the house was foreclosed on.

Parkland Fire Company Chief Bob Barnes said the house had been empty for several months.

Smoke came from the house around 12:15 p.m. and firefighters were called. Barnes said firefighters were quickly able to put down any flames.

Firefighters from the Penndel and Nottingham fire companies assisted Parkland crews. Middletown police and the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad were also at the scene.
