A kitchen fire was stopped before it could spread Sunday evening.

Edgely Fire Company Assistant Chief Joe Cavanaugh said company chief Carl Pierce was first to arrive to a reported kitchen fire on Kingwood Lane in the Levittown section of Bristol Township and put down the flames with an extinguisher around 7 p.m.

More firefighters arrived to the home and checked the structure to be sure the flames didn’t extend, according to Cavanaugh.
The flames were contained to the area around the stove and smoke filled the house, Cavanaugh said.
Residents were home at the time of the fire. One person was examined for smoke inhalation and refused treatment, the assistant chief said.

Cavanaugh said the fire could have easily spread and been worse had Pierce not arrived so fast and properly used the extinguisher.
Firefighters from the Levittown No. 2, Morrisville, Newportville, Third District and Tullytown fire companies responded to the scene.
