Cops: Victim Leaps from Second Story Balcony When Man Tries to Break in

A woman wrapped in only a towel had to leap from the second-story balcony of her Hamilton Park apartment early Wednesday morning when a man tried to break into her apartment, Middletown police said.

The victim, who was preparing to take a shower, was checking ย on some food she was cooking when, according to police, she heard her the doorknob to her apartment jiggle and move.

As she told police, she looked out the peep hole and saw “a white male” at the bottom of the door trying to break in.

The victim put the chain lock on the door and suddenly it was forced open, court documents say, she then banged on her wall telling her neighbor to call the police meanwhile grabbing ย her phone and “jumped” fromย second floor balcony to the sidewalk with only a towel on and called police.

Officers arrived on the scene quickly. The victim related her story to police, pointing out where she jumped from, according to court papers.

Officers spoke to a witness in the building, who reportedly saw the suspect trying his door also. The witness told police he recognized the man as 40-year-oldย Christopher McCammon, a fellow resident he building, according to court documents. McCammon reportedly said he “was sorry” at the timeย  for trying his door and quickly walked away going upstairs. ย Moreover, the witness also told police he sawย McCammon shoulder and force the victims door open, authorities said in court filings.

A second witness told police he heard loud noises and the shout by the victim to call 911, police noted in court paperwork. The man took a look into the hallway and saw McCammon was standing there talking to the first witness apologizing for the first witness, police said.

Officers locatedย McCammon outside the apartment complex and placed him under arrest. He was charged with burglary, criminal trespassing and a drug possession charge.

McCammon’s ย bail was set at 10 percent of $50,000 and he was sent to Bucks County Jail.
