The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced last week that the Tyburn Road Bridge over Amtrak in Falls Township, Bucks County, will be reduced to one lane Tuesday through Thursday nights (April 29-May 1) from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge beam removal.

Tyburn Road will be restricted to one lane between Pennsylvania Avenue and New Ford Mill Road. Traffic will be controlled by flagging and Falls Township Police.

Construction began in March 2013 on a $14.9 million project to rehabilitate the structurally-deficient bridge over Amtrak rail lines. The work is expected to finish in October 2014.

Travel across the Tyburn Road Bridge, which was built in 1955, has been restricted to one-lane in each direction since July 6, 2011 due to its poor structural condition.

PennDOTโ€™s contactor is restoring the steel-I beam bridge by removing and replacing the bridge deck and 10 beams; stabilizing the embankments; and paving the roadway approaches.

The four-span structure dates back to 1955. It is 68 feet wide and 291 feet long. The bridge carries 9,184 vehicles a day. When finished the bridge will have four 12-foot travel lanes and two 6-foot shoulders
