Strouse’s campaign manager Brendan McPhillips told LevittownNow.com the commercial will air on cable and broadcast stations as part of a “substantial” buy. McPhillips declined to comment on how much the buy was worth and whether more spots are expected before the May 20 primary.

The 30-second advertisement was posted to YouTube and the campaign’s website Wednesday. It was viewed more than 200 times in the first several hours it was live.

The commercial takes a lighthearted approach to Strouse’s background as a Army Ranger, intelligence officer and director of a nonprofit that teaches students “social entrepreneurship.” Strouse’s two children are featured in the spot and his wife is seen reading the newspaper in the background. Information boxes popup throughout the advertisement and an Austin Powers-like song plays throughout the advertisement. The commercial finishes with Strouse saying, “I’m Kevin Strouse, and I approve this message – seriously.”

Aside from introducing viewers to who he is, Strouse, who lives in Middletown, says “we need to rebuild the middle class.”

“I’m Kevin Strouse. People say I’m a serious guy—and they’re right. I took my service as an Army Ranger and a counterterrorism officer—seriously. I’m serious about education, and I direct a nonprofit that works with schools. And as someone who got help from the G.I. Bill, I’m serious about making college affordable for every kid. Now I’m running for Congress because we need to rebuild the middle class. I’m Kevin Strouse, and I approve this message—seriously.”
