A convicted felon was arrested after his girlfriend was shot in the thigh Monday night in Bristol Township. The question police are asking: Was the shooting accidental or on purpose?

Brian McDuffie, 30, of Bristol Township, was charged with possession of a prohibited firearm early Tuesday morning. He was arraigned and sent to prison on 10 percent of $200,000 bail.

Lt. Terry Hughes said investigators are still probing the Monday night shooting and more charges could be filed if they can prove the shooting was intentional.
The 28-year-old woman who was shot told police McDuffie, her boyfriend, fired the gun and a bullet struck her while he was showing the weapon to her in the bathroom of an apartment in the Royal Park Apartments on Haines Road.
Police said they arrived and found the woman on the ground and suffering from “extreme pain.” Hughes said she was in stable condition at the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators learned an officer delivered a subpoena to the woman about two hours before the shooting at 7:50 p.m., according to court papers. The woman was to testify against McDuffie in an aggravated assault case next week.
When speaking with detectives, McDuffie said he was showing his girlfriend the .38 revolver when it “accidentally” went off. He added that he hid the gun in a trashcan on South Kenwood Drive in Bristol Township’s Levittown section, according to court papers.

As part of the upcoming aggravated assault case, McDuffie is not supposed to live with his girlfriend, police said. He is accused with assaulting her in December 2013.
McDuffie has a felony conviction from a drug case in 2006.
The Royal Park complex was formerly known as Victoria Gardens.
