Crime Victims’ Rights Week Recognized by NOVA, County & Fitzpatrick


2014_ncvrw_portal_v2This week is National Crime Victims’ Rights ย Week. In recognition of the week that honors victims of crime,ย Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA) will be hosting a crime victimsโ€™ commemorative arbor cleanup.

On Saturday, April 26 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., a crime victimsโ€™ commemorative arbor cleanup will take place at Core Creek Park’s Lake Luxembourg in Middletown.

NOVA hosted a candlelight tribute ecumenical service at Newtown Friends Meeting on Tuesday. The event brought together victims, their families, law enforcement personnel, members of the judicial system, community leaders and supporters of the victimsโ€™ rights movement

In addition to the events, the Bucks County Commissioners proclaimed April 6 through 12 Crime Victimsโ€™ Rights Week in Bucks County and presented NOVA Executive Director Barbara Clark with a copy of the proclamation.

โ€œIn so doing,โ€ the proclamation reads, โ€œwe salute NOVA for its continued efforts over the past 40 years to respect and enforce victimsโ€™ rights and address their needs not only during National Crime Victimsโ€™ Rights Week but throughout the year.โ€

Also in recognition of Crime Victim Rights’ Week ,Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick released the following statement on Monday:

โ€œThis week, we recognize the rights of victims, survivors and families affected by crime and honor those who advocate on their behalf. National Crime Victimsโ€™ Rights Week refocuses our communities on the important goal of not only tackling crime in our neighborhoods, but standing up for our neighbors who are victims of crime.ย Bucks and Montgomery counties are blessed with a number of amazing organizations and countless volunteers who strive to provide compassionate care for all those touched by crime of any kind. Groups like the Network of Victims Assistance (NOVA) and the Victim Services Center provide vital physical and emotional support services โ€“ this week we also recognize their commitment. ย By promoting reflection, hope and healing year-round when it comes to victimsโ€™ rights we can take meaningful steps restore the balance of justice.โ€

Fitzpatrick has supported and co-sponsored a number of measures that support victims of crime. The Victims of Crimes Act and The Victims of Child Abuse Act among others.
