A man accused of abusing his elderly mother will likely plead guilty at court in Doylestown.

Adam Epstein, 45, of Philadelphia, is expected to plead guilty to beating his mother to the point she had to stay in the intensive care unit of St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown. The news came after Epstein waived his right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Wagner Jr. on Tuesday.

Police charged Epstein last month for the July 2013 attack that reportedly happened at his mother’s residence in the 7200 block of Marion Avenue in Bristol Township.

Officers arrived to the woman’s apartment last year to find her bruised and saying she was in pain, court papers say. Police added that the woman accused her son, Epstein, of beating her.

Hospital staff said the woman has injuries that were at different stages of healing, which indicated the abuse happened over a period of time, according to court papers.

Under the plea deal, Epstein could sit in prison for two to four years and face several years of parole after.

Epstien waived charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and recklessly endangering another person. He currently is confined to the county prison on 10 percent of $50,000 bail.
