Man Just ‘Messing Around’ During April Fools Day Robbery Attempt, Cops Say

Was it an April Fools joke gone wrong?

A Middletown Township man was charged Tuesday (April Fools Day) with attempting to rob the Wawa at the intersection of Veterans Highway (Route 413) and Bath Road earlier in the day.

Marc Gansworth, 27, is accused of going into the Wawa around 3:20 am. and asking to borrow a pen. He the wrote “give me all of the money” on a piece of paper using the pink pen and slid the piece of paper to a clerk, according police.

The clerk pretended she couldn’t read the note and Gansworth took the note and pen as customers approached the counter, police said.

Officers were able to stop the black Chevrolet Impala Gansworth was seen driving off in at New Falls Road and Indian Creek Entrance a short time after the robbery, according to court papers. Two other people were in the car with Gansworth at the time of the stop, police said.

The clerk identified Gansworth as the man who slipped her the note, according to court papers. The two passengers were released and not charged.

Police found three syringes, multiple denominations of suspected counterfeit cash and suspected marijuana in the car, court documents read. A pink pen was also reported to be found.

Gansworth claimed he was a regular at the Wawa and said the employees know him, court papers say.

During an interview at police headquarters on Bath Road, Gansworth said he was “only messing around.” The officer told him he had viewed surveillance video of the incident and Gansworth replied he “giggled a little” when he wrote the note, police wrote in court papers.

Officers later discovered a counterfeit $100 bill and a baggie with suspect cocaine on Gansworth, police said.

The note was not recovered and Gansworth said he either tossed it out the window or threw it in a trash can outside Wawa.

Gansworth was charged with robbery and two drug-related offenses. He was arraigned and remanded to county prison on 10 percent of $50,000 bail.
