Former Substitute Teacher Accused of Theft Waives, Seeks ARD

The substitute teacher that was allegedly caught stealing from students and support staff at Snyder Girotti Elementary School Bristol Borough plans to apply for a special probation program for first time offenders.

Kathryn Boyce, 34 of Bristol Township, waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

Her case ย now goes to the court of common pleas in ย Doylestown.

LevittownNow.com first broke the story of the now former substitute teacher on January 30. She was observed by 5th grade students rummaging through student book bags and ย the purse of a class room support staff, according to court documents.

When a teacherโ€™s aide left the classroom, the students saw Boyce go over to her desk and bend down near her purse, authorities wrote in court papers allegedly removing $75.

The school principal informedย the districtโ€™s superintendent, Gregory Wright, who met with Boyce. Initially Boyce denied taking the money, agreeing to let police search her bags, according to court documents.ย ย  The then-substitute teacher began pulling things out of her bag. The items included a copper purse. She then placed the bag between her legs and stated that she had medicine in her bag and refused to show what was inside the bag to school and police officials, court papers say

Authorities ย then ย instructed Boyce to put everything back into ย her bag, she ย asked โ€œwhy?ย  Boyce then told school and police officials, โ€œlook, I just found out Iโ€™m diabetic,โ€ and quickly opened the bag where a hypodermic needle laid.

Police also noted when Boyce reached to open her bag they observed โ€œtrack marksโ€ on her wrist and said she reported she was insulin dependent dibetic, court papers say.

Boyce who pleaded guilty to a summary retail theft charge in 2012, according to online court documents ย will be applying for theย Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) ย a first-time offender program, authorities told LevittownNow.com Thursday.

Boyce reportedly worked the day after she was charged in the Bristol Township School District because as one source said, a borough school district official “dropped the ball.”

Boyce admitted to taking the $75 out of the aideโ€™sย purse with some ย some gift cards, court documents say. She is scheduled to appear in Bucks County Court on April 25 at 12 p.m. and is currently free onย ย on $1,000 unsecured bond.
