Croydon Man Feared Dead After Jumping in River While Fleeing Police

A 19-year-old Croydon man is presumed dead after jumping off a bridge in Philadelphia as he attempted to avoid police.

The man, whose name is not being released by authorities, ran from Amtrak officials at 30th Street Station last Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. after they found his bag, which contained drugs and a gun, according to 6abc.com.

The man ran off and was chased by officials. Officials from Amtrak and Philadelphia police confirmed the man jumped off the Market Street Bridge into the Schuylkill River and has not been seen since.

Members of the Philadelphia Police Department’s Marine Unit has searched the chilly waters and have yet to find any trace of the teen. Philadelphia Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman, told LevittownNow.com the Marine Unit is not conducting a “recovery” mission and working to find the young man’s body.
