A Trenton man is accused of stealing $43,000 over the past several years from his Falls Township employer. According to court papers, his reason: he hasn’t received a raise in 10 years.
Robert Kitson, 53, was the lead dispatcher at Reber Transportation on Steel Road for 14 years and police allege he stole the money from the company’s petty cash since 2007.

The second-generation owner of the transportation company noticed a problem with the books earlier this month and discovered Kitson was dipping into the petty cash used to pay for drivers’ tolls, fuel and repairs, according to police. The owner reported the issue to investigators and they began looking into the case.
The owner, according to court papers, stumbled onto the alleged theft after he went through an EZPass toll and noticed an extra charge for that day without a receipt. The owner looked back several years to discover when the theft began.
Kitson was tasked with collecting and marking the receipts. He was also in charge of how much is paid from the petty cash fund, police said.

The more the owner of the business looked, the more the more charges without receipts he reportedly found. Court papers show the missing money was between $20 and $40 a day.
Kitson was interviewed by police this week and said, “I know why you’re here. I did it.” He then told police why he stole from his employer, according to court records.

Since 2007, police said Kitson has taken an average amount of $135.64 a week.
Kitson was charged with theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and receiving stolen property. He is currently free on $150,000 unsecured bail.
