Jason Heim watched daughter Jaylea take steps on Sunday with the help of the staff at Florida Children’s Hospital.

“She’s getting better,” Jason Heim said of hisย 7-year-old daughter.

Like the faith and support that has steadied the Heim family, the same now can be said for “J-Baby” as she recovers from the H1N1 virus andย  pneumonia.

“We’ve seen real progress” Heim said Monday afternoon. He added Jaylea was moved to a step down unit on Sunday.

She’s speaking a little and right now, he said. At that moment, Jaylea was ย down the hall coloring with her mother, which is what a ย 7-year -old is supposed to be doing to begin with.

As previously reported, ย the trip from the Levittown section of Bristol Township to Florida started out as any other for a ย planned family vacation. ย But as the family approached the Florida border, Jaylea started to show signs and symptoms of illness, Heim said last week.

But now 7 days later, breathing on her own, smiling, reacting, Heim and family have ย Jaylea back and that’s what matters, Kevin Williams, her uncle said Monday morning.

On Heim’s Facebook page, gratitude and thanks are shared with daily, if not hourly, updates.

Heim said the family hopes to be making its way home to Levittown “sometime at week’s end,” as his daughter’s fighting spirit is illustrated by the images posted of Jaylea ย taking steps on her road to full recovery.

“She still has some issues” with her lungs, Heim said, ย but the hopes of many could be heard in his voice as he said she is “recovering.”

And that’s all that matters!
