Democrat, Independent or Republican? I faced this decision almost thirty years ago when I first registered to vote. I admit, at the time I registered as a Democrat because my father was a Republican. Over the years I educated myself about the candidates and the issues, both at the local and the national level and I have voted in (almost) every election because it is my duty and privilege as an American.

I share this background with you as it is necessary to understand why I am so disappointed in the actions of some of my fellow Democrats, John Cordisco, Chairman of the Bucks County Democratic Committee and Diane Marseglia, Bucks County Commissioner, who, when approached by lifelong Republican Richie Webb, welcomed him with open arms and convinced him to run against Frank Farry for State Representative. Have I entered an alternate universe? Richie Webb is no more a Democrat than I am an Olympic athlete!
Webb is a wolf in Democrat’s clothing who is attempting to manipulate the system that is currently in place. Does anyone seriously believe that a lifelong Republican is going to support the Democratic party? Webb is a poster boy for Tea Party Conservatives such as Americans for Prosperity (funded by the billionaire Koch brothers) and Leadership for Liberty; both organizations are extremists in their beliefs. Locally, Webb is known for not raising taxes to the detriment of educational programs in the Neshaminy School District, fostering an “us against them” atmosphere and he has challenged Right to Work laws and so-called paycheck protection legislation.
Beyond that, Webb works full-time and runs two businesses on the side. He recently stepped down from public office claiming he was, “burnt out” and he wanted to spend more time with his family – is he going to be up to the challenge of a higher office? Is he going to serve all of the people of his district or will he continue a pattern of divisiveness? This is a wake-up call to all Bucks County Democrats and Progressive Republicans, be sure you are voting for Democrat Gina Kiley, the individual who really shares your beliefs, not one who shares them only when it’s time to get elected.
