Falls Township police have a message for residents: Move your vehicles from the street for the upcoming winter storm.
Police tell LevittownNow.com starting Sunday at 6 p.m. when a State of Emergency and Snow Emergency go in effect they will have vehicles that are left in the street towed at the owner’s expense. The two declarations could last as long as 72 hours, depending on conditions. Police will update residents through the local news media, the township channel and social media.

Lt. Hank Ward spelled out that no cars, boats, trailers, motor homes or motorcycles are to be left on any township road.
The State of Emergency was issued by the chief of police Friday afternoon. Ward said Ordinance 203-3 allows the chief to require all vehicles to be moved from municipal roads.
During the last big snow storm, Falls officials had 59 vehicles removed from township roads. In total, only three people filed formal complaints and Ward said most understood why their vehicle was towed.

Officials stress it is important to remove cars during storms so plow trucks can clear the road. Fire Marshal Rich Dippoilito added that it is important to remove cars from the road so the street can be cleared for emergency vehicles like fire truck.
So far, township plows have been damaged and caused damage because vehicles were left in the street during the storm, Ward said. One risk in this storm, as with others, is freezing of any precipitation that is not removed. The rock-solid ice can cause damage to plows or the motoring public.

Dippoilito also asked residents to dig out their fire hydrants following the snow.
