Cops: ‘Belligerent’ Woman Spits on Officers, Kicks While Trying to Escape

Marielena McAnany allegedly showed up at St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown late last month creating a disturbance. By the time she was done, she spit on several officers, tried to escape, claimed to have been raped and was arrested for assault and aggravated assault by a prisoner and a slew of related offenses, authorities say.

McAnany, 38 of Philadelphia, was reported by the medical center staff ย during the afternoon of January 31 ย as potentially being under the influence of narcotics, according to court paperwork. Upon arrival on scene ย authorities discoveredย  McAnany had several warrants for her arrest in Bucks and Philadelphia counties, police said.

During the process of taking the suspect into custody, a ย search turned up a glass pipeย  – known in the drug world as a “stem” – which is associated with smoking crack, court records say.

McAnany was admitted to the hospital emergency room for complaints of bleeding. After being admitted, authorities were advised by hospital staff the suspect has a medical condition which required precautions to be taken by the officers watching the suspect, according to court paperwork.

While in the emergency room, according to the probable cause affidavit, McAnany was” hostile, belligerent and uncooperative,” requiring authorities to handcuff her to the hospital bed. Subsequently, she spit on the officer who handcuffed her as he walked away, court documents say.

McAnany, while waiting to be treated “screamed” at officers that she had been raped earlier that morning in Philadelphia, which required the Middletown officers to transport McAnany to the Philadelphia Special Victims Unit (SVU) after she refused medical treatment at the medical center.

Prior to the transporting McAnany to Philadelphia, authorities placed McAnany in the back of the patrol car to head back to the Middletown police station to pick up another officer when the suspect proceeded to bang her head on the divider in the patrol car and kick the door windows. The outburst was in an apparent attempt to break the glass, authorities wrote in court paperwork.

While the suspect was transferred to a “more secure” vehicle, officer’s wrote in court paper work, McAnany spit on two more officers, hitting one directly in the face.

After the woman ย was interviewed by SVU, she was placed back into the cruiser for transport. McAnany managed to get out of the handcuffs and while being re-cuffed she spit in a fourth officers face, court records say.

McAnany is scheduled to appear in front of District Court Judge ย John J. Kelly Jr on February 27 for a preliminary hearing.

She is currently in Bucks County Jail on 10 percent of $100,000.
