Canine Graduates of Penn Vet Working Dog Center Join SEPTA Police Force


Before the storm walloped the area, SEPTA held a graduation ceremony for two new K-9 unit’s that will join the regional transit police force.

Ronnie, a German Shepherd, and Kaiserin, a Dutch Shepherd, graduated Wednesday from the Penn Vet Working Dog Center at a ceremony held in at the Grays Ferry Building in Philadelphia.

Ronnie andย  Kai are the first graduates of the Working Dog Center to join SEPTA and will take part in additional explosives detection training also, a press releases says.

Dr. Cindy Otto, executive director of Penn Vet Working Dog Center, presented ย a special gift to the dedicated foster parents of the dogs โ€“ Cathy Von Elm, who fostered Ronnie, and Dr. Gia Croce (a Penn Vet alumna) and her husband Tim Bulman, who fostered Kaiserin.

Following the ceremony, the dogs did a ย live detection demonstrations using the Working Dog Centerโ€™s indoor scent wall.
