“Remember, respect the snow, fear the ice,” the National Weather Service wrote in a briefing package that was distributed Tuesday evening.
After a large snow storm dumped about 8 inches of snow across the area Monday, forecasters are concerned about an ice storm expected to hit overnight.

A coating of ice, possibly up to a quarter inch, is expected by Wednesday morning, according to the NWS. That ice will come along with some snow and heavy rain.
“Amounts [of ice] over 0.25 start to cause concerns about damage to tree limbs & power lines due to the weight of the ice. If vegetation is still carrying a snow load from yesterday’s storm, problems will start even sooner,” the NWS briefing package says.
Concerns over flooding on the ice-clogged Delaware River are valid. The NWS predicts about an inch of rain.

SEPTA announced proactive measures earlier Tuesday in advance of the storm and anticipated icy conditions by urging customers to plan ahead, and if possible, delay their morning commutes.
According to the release, SEPTA staff will closely monitor the storm to assess conditions and determine the service adjustments necessary by announcing changes to service as soon as information is available, and when possible, in advance for customers

The “widespread icing event” is foretasted to start overnight and continue into daybreak Wednesday.
Mother Nature is expected to give us a few days break before another winter storm hits this weekend.
