State House Tourism Committee Visit Bucks County

Bucks County welcomed 10 members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and guests from the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee last month.

Visit Bucks County, the local tourism bureau, along with Central Bucks County State Rep. Marguerite Quinn,  hosted the committee. The group spent two days visiting locations across the county and discussed the opportunities and challenges that facing the local and state tourism industry.

The visit was the first official stop to Bucks County by the committee in recent memory, Visit Bucks County Marketing and Communications Director Paul Bencivengo said. He added that many of the state representatives had previously visited Bucks County, some for vacation.

The Bucks County visit is important because it gave tourism officials to  show off the area and demonstrate why funding local tourism agencies like Visit Bucks County is important, Bencivengo said. The state has cut some funding for local tourism in recent years.

According to Tourism Economics and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism & Marketing Corporation, over 11,600 jobs are supported through the tourism industry along with $877 million in economic impact. Those numbers are just in Bucks County alone, Visit Bucks County officials say.
