The fifth-graders at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School finished out their school week with the annual “Super Duper Bowl.”
The flag football tournament and charity event was held Friday, just days before the eyes of the sports world turned to New Jersey for the Super Bowl.

Students donated $1 a ticket to attend the afternoon gridiron showdown at the Falls Township school. The money from ticket sales benefited Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Each fifth-grade class created their own team name and mascot using their homeroom teacher’s name as inspiration. The faculty members’ names and their respective class teams are as follows: Joe Melnick (Melnick Mashers); Sandra Raybuck (Radical Raging Raybucks); Maureen Janthor (Janthor Panthers); Jason Miller (Miller’s Mean Machine); and Roger Kean (Kean Kongs).
Players made their way through the mud and snow as they were cheered on by younger students, many of whom made posters to cheer on their peers. The young crowd receive soft pretzels and jammed to tunes from a DJ.

Teachers Roger Kean and Jason Miller organized the event with the backing of Principal Elizabeth Aldridge. The event tied in with the school’s character education initiative.
