A pitbull died Monday afternoon in a fire on Hoover Drive in Falls Township’s Fairless Hills section.
The fire started when a space heater fell onto a dog bed inside a mobile home on the 100 block of Hoover Drive, Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said. Firefighters were called to the scene at 12:57 p.m. when the owner arrived home from work to discover the fire.

Dippolito said the fire spread and ran up a wood table which held a turtle aquarium. The fire caused the glass of the aquarium to break, which spilled water onto the flames, putting the fire out. The fire marshal confirmed the turtle survived the blaze.
What caused the space heater to knock over is not known with certainty, but Dippolito said the dog may have knocked it over.
The mobile home suffered heavy damage, mostly from smoke and heat, Dippolito said.
