At last week’s meeting, the Neshaminy School Board voted 7-0 to approve a demographic study. The $13,600 study will provide district officials with detailed demographics of the district’s eight elementary and three middle schools.
Employees from Civil Solutions Inc. and Spiezle Architectural Group will spend at least two weeks pouring over data to prepare a report on student enrollment.

School board president Scott Congdon said the results of the study will be used by the facilities ad hoc committee as they come up with consolidation options for the district.
The two firms preparing the study results will find out where students from certain neighborhoods go to school.
Previously, Neshaminy had McKissick Associates study the district’s facilities and come up with three options for consolidating and closing several district elementary schools. The goal of consolidation is to save the district cash in the long run.

McKissick Associates detailed three options for consolidating and closing several district elementary schools for long-term savings. Talk of closing three elementary schools and building a larger school in Trevose swept the district and drew many parents to board meetings. In September, then-board president Ritchie Webb said the proposal would be tabled and reconsidered, citing changing economics he said the board would reform an ad hoc committee.
Shortly after, McKissick presented results of a study showing how many seats are available at the district’s elementary schools. The study showed a number of empty seats and wasted space, which drains money from the school system.

“I want to do something as soon as possible,” Congdon said last week, citing the numerous studies. “I don’t want to waste any more money,” he added.
The ad hoc facilities committee is expected to present its suggestions to the school board in the coming weeks.
